Curves and swerves: Striking ‘Sweep House’ set to smash suburb records
A striking mid-century brutalism, art deco and Mediterranean inspired residence – fittingly named ‘Sweep House’ – is likely to break price records for the inner city Perth suburb of Mt Hawthorn.
The four bedroom, four bathroom home at 58 Kalgoorlie Street, Mt Hawthorn has hit the market via an Expressions of Interest campaign, and sales agent Ryan Smith from Whitefox Perth – Subiaco said he expected it to sell well in excess of Mt Hawthorn’s previous highest sales price of $2.3 million.

Sweep House’s inaugural home open saw more than 100 groups of people attend.
“A lot of people have been watching this one get built over the last few years,” Mr Smith said.
“It’s very unique. Obviously, it has a third level rooftop balcony, which is very rare.
“It’s on two lots. So they’ve inaugurated two lots into the one title. It is obviously a much larger than the standard Mt Hawthorn block of 600sqm.”

The epitome of architectural opulence, the residence was the brainchild of renowned Perth architectural studio, State of Kin, and curved structures, porthole window, apertures to the front elevation and varying textures are just some of the hallmarks of its design.
Built for a young family that could be grown into, the home needed to be kid friendly, Mr Smith said, with softer carpets up the stairs, hollow curves rather than pointy features, as well as entertainment areas which were big enough for the adults, but cater for children as well.

“The staircase is a piece of art – it was hand poured during the construction,” Mr Smith said.
“When you’re there, it’s pretty impressive. When you walk in there, it’s massive.
“Obviously, the natural light throughout the home as well, is quite incredible. When you’re walking up the staircase, you’ve got a skylight above you.
“It’s just an abundance of natural light everywhere you go in this house.”

Other standout features include Noce Eschilo travertine flooring leading to a sunken 1970s inspired living room, a Juliet balcony to the master bedroom, which has a travertine and skylight adorned ensuite.
Two bedrooms also have ensuite bathrooms and open to an internal terrace, while a faceted island bench with an angular built-in bar pay homage to the home’s minimalist elegance in the kitchen.

In addition to a pool with its own custom made daybed, there is also a Pilates studio and a sauna.
“Wellness is a huge thing in today’s society,” Mr Smith said.
“Even all the showers throughout [the home] – there’s a filter for all the showers, so the water is nice and clean.”
