A two-storey family home has set a new suburb record in Adelaide’s southwest, leaving not only buyers and neighbours – but its agent – speechless by its final sales result.

The five-bedroom residence at 13 Coolah Terrace, Marion sold under the hammer on Saturday for $2.12m, smashing the previous record holder by an impressive $750,000.

Selling agent Samuel Paton, who recently launched Ray White Marion, said the sale was unprecedented for the area.

“The auction went really well and was surreal, to be honest. We had 15 registered bidders and it exceeded all of our expectations. It was super competitive.

“The opening bid was $1m and it went up to $1.9m within a minute or two and went well above reserve…and ended up with selling to a local couple.

“We’ve worked in Marion for nine years now and I never thought I’d see the day we’d eclipse $2m as a sale price.

“So it was a pretty cool moment for us and I guess for the people that live there.”

Mr Paton said the home proved popular with a mix-range of buyers.

“Buyers interest came from all over the place,” he said.

“There were a couple of people moving back to Adelaide from interstate that were attracted to it but most (of the interest) came from local families that weren’t necessarily interested in Marion but were attracted to the house itself and what it offered.

“I think Westminster School being so close by also played a big part in attracting people as the home is within walking distance.”
