Queensland’s Best Homes: Heritage home visited Royal Family member now up for sale
More than 90 years ago, royalty came to this heritage homestead in the Sunshine Coast. Now, one family has been working to restore it, and is offering a chance to live in this slice of history.
The seven-bedroom, six-bathroom home at 6-14 Orme Rd, Buderim, is also known as ‘Buderim House’, currently up for sale by Homestead Prestige.
It’s one of Queensland’s five best homes up for sale this week.
Built in 1915, this Queenslander was owned by fruit growers for the first few decades of its life. It was visited in 1934 by Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, who later became the only Royal to serve as Australia’s Governor-General.
The property was entered into the State Heritage list in 1993: representing an early 20th century Queensland timber residence that “exhibits particular aesthetic characteristics valued by the Buderim community”.
Homestead Prestige agent Tristan Kurz said properties such as these are becoming increasingly rare, especially ones sitting on more than 1.5 acres of land.
“The current owners have undertaken a four-year restoration program to take it up to what it is today,” he said. “The property hasn’t looked like this in decades … the gardens are looking like never before.”
Featuring warm living spaces similar to European designs, along with a lush backyard with a wide pool area, the home’s expansive grounds give the opportunity for large families to live in open-spaced tranquillity.
Mr Kurz said the vendor, an architect, wanted to bring the property up to a level befitting its history.
“For him it was such a passion to bring a beautiful old Queenslander back to what it should be,” he said.
