Treasure awaits buyers looking to hook pirate-themed home

The owner of a unique Port Adelaide home is hoping to hook a new captain.
Zoran Bajic, who has owned the Old Pirates Cottage at 17 Liddon Place for the past 22 years is looking to part ways with his home and separate pirate-themed Airbnb, which once famously served as the backdrop of web-based commercial for SA’s own Coopers Brewery.
Originally built in 1879, the cottage has been carefully renovated and decorated to create the perfect rustic retreat and comes with a near-perfect score on holiday rental booking website.
“When we bought it, we wanted to make a nice home for us … and did so, with a little bit of help from my son who studied art,” Mr Bajic said.
“The courtyard with the pirate ship deck, that was an idea we had for kids. We wanted to make it fun for kids and to give it some spirit.
“It’s been very popular on Airbnb and we had over 200 guests stay here.”

Ships Ahoy! The Old Pirates Cottage has been a popular Airbnb for almost a decade.
A ship-like deck in the rear courtyard has been the playground for many pirate-themed kids’ play parties.
A stunning beach landscape mural in the main bathroom was painted by Adelaide artist (and son of the owners) Ned Bajic.
Selling agent Nick Psarros of Ray White Port Adelaide said the home was one of the most unique listings on the market with inquiries fielded from near and far.
He said he expected a massive turnout at the property’s first open on the weekend, despite the home being listed without a price guide.
Besides its pirate-themed appearance, the three-bedroom listing features a 6.6kW solar system, a built-in barbecue area with extra storage, provision for a separate laundry or bar, multiple entertaining areas and a solar security camera with sensor light.
The home make an impression the moment you arrive.
The artistic decor includes an eclectic mix of natural materials, vibrant colours, and original artwork in a wonderful blend of old and new.
The living areas are warm and welcoming and the generously sized kitchen is well equipped.
“The property is classic Port Adelaide. Ships ahoy, you know?,” Mr Psarros said.
“People are going to be really amazed by it as it really is an enchanting place.
“It’s full of excitement and has a point of difference but at the same time, blends in well and has been done tastefully.
“Interest so far has been a real mix. We’ve had inquiries from owner-occupiers but also people who want to do something similar (to the owners) where they want to live in it but also use it as an Airbnb and people who just want something quirky and unique.”
